UPDATE: 17th April – Automatic Satellite Dishes
Here’s the latest status update regarding the compatibility of popular automatic satellite dish systems with the new Koreasat 6 (KT6) satellite:
-
TechniSat Skyrider – Operating successfully ✅
A new firmware update will be available soon to enhance functionality. -
SamY 54 – ❌ Not compatible
This is a non-DVB-S2 model and is not supported on the new satellite. Unfortunately, this cannot be resolved with a firmware update. -
Oyster 60 – Partially functional
Systems should be working but may respond slowly. A firmware update is expected after Easter to improve performance. -
Kiwi Sat – ❌ Not currently working
We now have new firmware and can update the Kiwi Sat, Please fill our form in at the bottom of this page and we will contact you to book you in @ our workshop for this upgrade. -
NZSAT (Dome & Dish systems) – ✅ Working with KT6
Fully compatible with the new satellite. A future firmware update will provide further optimisations. -
Other branded dome dishes – ⚠️ Mixed performance
Many are experiencing issues. Firmware updates have not yet been released. Note that dome dishes, due to their smaller size, often struggle with signal strength—especially with the lower signal levels expected in parts of New Zealand.
15th April Important Notice:
At approximately 5:30 AM on Tuesday, 15th April, Optus D2 was decommissioned. Koreasat 6 (KT6) has successfully taken over from the same orbital position and is now broadcasting Sky and Freeview services.
Satellite Update for Motorhomes – Sky and Freeview Changed on 15th April @ 5:30 AM
Why the Change?
The current satellite, Optus D2, has reached the end of its life and has been retired. To maintain uninterrupted service, a new satellite – Koreasat 6 (KT6) – has taken over, continuing to deliver Sky TV and Freeview channels throughout New Zealand.
What Motorhome Users Need to Know:
✅ No Dish Realignment Needed
KT6 is in the same position in the sky (160°E), so your windup or manual satellite dish does not need to be adjusted. – But you may need your Automatic Dish re programmed to receive the new Satellite. – Some older Automatic models may not be able to work with the New Satellite.
🔄 Freeview Retuning May Be Required
Some TVs or set-top boxes will need to be retuned to pick up Freeview again.
